Determination of the Current Status of the Barley Mealybug, Trionymus Haancheni, in Idaho and Neighboring States
The Haanchen barley mealybug was discovered for the first time in Idaho in June 2003. The insect had not been reported in the U.S. in more than 40 years. Crop losses of 50-75% from mealybug damage were common. The extent to which this pest ultimately might establish itself beyond its current 9 county distribution is unknown. This project will determine the potential spread of the insect, its host plants, and site-specific factors responsible for high mealybug damage.
