Predictive Ecology and Detection of a Recombinant Biocontrol Fungus in Soil Grant uri icon

  • Uncertainty about the fate of recombinant fungi released into soil habitats has resulted in controversy concerning the potential risks and benefits of releasing transgenic fungi for disease or insect pest biocontrol. This provides a strong motivation for increased understanding of the ecology or released transgenic fungi. This project will develop methods to accurately monitor and predict the dispersal, survival, and relative fitness of recombinant biocontrol fungi that are released into soil habitats, including the possible role of refuges in determining their fitness and survival.
