Genetic Improvement of Beans (phaseolus Vulgaris L.) for Yield, Pest Resistance and Food Value Grant uri icon

Overview

abstract

  • Broadly adapted high yielding great northern and pinto bean cultivars resistant to multiple stresses are needed to reduce production costs and increase production and competitiveness of the Idaho bean industry regionally, nationally, and internationally. Genetically broad-based populations will be developed for parental germplasm enhancement. Subsequently elite x elite crosses, a multi-disciplinary team approach, and extensive state, regional, and national testing will be used for superior cultivar development.
