Development of Improved Wheat Cultivars for Idaho Grant uri icon

  • Disease and insect pests continue to reduce wheat crop yields and force growers to accept crop damage or alter their management practices, including the application of expensive pesticides. The availabilty of genetic markers for resistance to disease and insect pests makes possible the rapid selection of improved germplasm with elevated levels of host-plant resistance. This project will develop wheat cultivars that reduce crop loss due to pests and reduces the amount of pesticides applied to the wheat crop to control those pests.
