Conventional and Ecologically Based Control Practices for Potato Insects and PLRV Transmission Grant uri icon

Overview

abstract

  • Insecticides are the primary means of managing potato pests. Intense aphid control may not prevent spread of PLRV unless virus-inoculum is kept at a minimum. Some insecticides provide good control of aphids but do not prevent virus transmission. The purpose of this research is to reduce pesticide use by implementing biological control in Idaho; evaluate weeds as an inoculum source for the aphid-mediated transmission of PLRV; and optimize insecticide applications to reduce PLRV transmission.
