Conventional and Ecologically Based Control Practices for Potato Insects and PLRV Transmission
Insecticides are the primary means of managing potato pests. Intense aphid control may not prevent spread of PLRV unless virus-inoculum is kept at a minimum. Some insecticides provide good control of aphids but do not prevent virus transmission. The purpose of this research is to reduce pesticide use by implementing biological control in Idaho; evaluate weeds as an inoculum source for the aphid-mediated transmission of PLRV; and optimize insecticide applications to reduce PLRV transmission.
