Molecular Mechanisms Regulating Skeletal Muscle Growth and Differentiation
Our objective is to understand the underlying mechanisms regulating growth of ruminants. This project will devise strategies to improve the efficiency of growth and to manipulate composition to provide the consumer with a red meat product that is safe, nutritious, appealing, and produced in a sustainable and efficient manner. The ability to understand and finely manipulate intracellular signaling pathways has enormous potential for exploitation. The single most important driver of profitability in primary production is the control of cost of production. Improvement in the efficiency of utilization of nutrients/energy will have a major effect on profitability of all beef production sectors.
