Microbial Ecology Applications for Watershed Environmental Protection
Grant
Overview
abstract
Impairment of water quality as a result of human activity, resulting in chemical or microbiological contamination, is one of the most significant threats to wild and natural areas. This first aspect of this project examines effects of grazing and recreation on E. coli contamination of wild and recreational waters. The second aspect of the project determines the potential interaction of fluctuating wetland water tables and indigenous iron-reducing bacteria, on mobility of lead and other contaminants in wetland soils.
