abstract

  • The objective of these projects is to identify behavioral and environmental factors that influence child care providers' implementation of nationally accepted guidelines and recommendations for feeding young children in care settings. Specifically, mealtimes in family child care settings and support for breastfeeding. Phase 1: Investigate behaviors and environmental factors that influence the feeding practices of child care providers in family child care settings. Identify behaviors and environmental factors that support or hinder implementation of nationally accepted guidelines for feeding young children and that enhance providers' feeding practices in family child care settings. Phase 2: Develop a research-based mealtime checklist for family child care providers to evaluate strategies and practices for feeding children in family child care settings. Phase 3: Determine qualities /characteristics of infant feeding programs in center and family child care settings that support parents and caregivers in carrying out recommendations for breastfeeding.
