Currently there is no afterschool program in Burley, Cassia County. 70% of the children in Burley elementary schools receive free or reduced lunch rates. 21% of the population is Hispanic of which 44% is under the age of 18 years. Approximately 20% of all fourth through sixth grade students are not testing at a proficient level on the Idaho Standard Achievement Test (ISAT) in reading and language usage. 36% to 50% of the Hispanic fourth through sixth grade students are not testing at a proficient level on the ISAT in reading and language usage. In Worley, Coeur d'Alene Reservation, 75% of the children at Lakeside Elementary received free or reduced lunch rates. 82% of the children are American Indian, 15% are two-races and 9% are Caucasian. 66% of the American Indian students are identified as limited English proficient. 66% of married people on
the Reservation are separated. 66% of the grandparents on the reservation are caregivers of grandchildren. The purpose of the Idaho SCP is to provide a quality afterschool program for under served children in the two rural communities of Worley and Burley, Idaho. The 4-H Afterschool program will focus on developing content and life skills in children and bring family and community members into the program.
