Identifying Factors that Promote Clearance of E. Coli O157:h7 from Cattle

Overview
abstract
Healthy cattle transiently harbor human disease-causing E. coli O157:H7 in the gastrointestinal tract and manure and digesta can contaminate foods. Decreasing the incidence of E. coli O157:H7-positive cattle will decrease the incidence of human disease. This work will identify strategies to promote the clearance of E. coli O157:H7 from cattle by analyzing the effect of ruminant diet and gut cell proliferation in the clearance of these bacteria.
