Overwinter Food Limitation and Herbivory in a Southern Snowshoe Hare Population Grant uri icon

Overview

abstract

  • Snowshoe hares are an important prey species for many predators in the northwestern U.S., including lynx which may be listed under the Endangered Species Act in 2000. Snowshoe hare relationships to plant food resources and predators will be studied by supplementing hare food overwinter and comparing behavior and energy expenditure in treated and control animals. Results from this study will improve our understanding of factors affecting snowshoe hare population dynamics.
