Overview
abstract
To improve traffic operations traffic engineers need to continuously monitor system performance and maintain up-to-date traffic volume and signal timing information. But these data are not often available and any efforts to improve traffic operations require costly field data collection. The need to agencies to access data available in the controller can be accomplished in one of two ways:
1) through the central or closed loop software that communicates with the traffic signal controllers, or
2) through a device installed at each cabinet that is connected to actuator and detector signals.
