Overview

abstract

  • The Federal Highway Administration will fund an ITS Integration and Deployment Project in the City of Moscow, Idaho that will be guided by the following objectives:
    • Provide a test for the implementation of NTCIP standards in a small-town traffic control system.
    • Develop and implement a plan to improve traffic flow and safety in the City of Moscow by upgrading and integrating the city’s traffic signal control system.
    • Develop and apply a protocol for the design, implementation, and testing of traffic signal timing plans using real-time hardware-in-the-loop simulation.
The ITS project is funded through several sources, including the FHWA ITS Integration and Deployment program, FHWA State Planning and Research program, Idaho Transportation Department, University of Idaho, McCain Traffic Supply, and Northwest Signal. In addition, through this proposal, a portion of the project funds will be provided through the University Transportation Centers program. The UTC program will fund an expansion of NIATT’s Traffic Controller Laboratory that will be used to test new traffic controllers to be deployed in the City of Moscow. The laboratory will be expanded to include a configurable system of twenty traffic signal controllers and controller interface devices.
