Development and Testing of Transportation Engineering Design Problems for Freshman and Sophomore Civil Engineering Students Grant uri icon

Overview

abstract

  • The University of Idaho’s Department of Civil Engineering offers an introduction to civil engineering courses, one at the freshman level and one at the sophomore level. Originally conceived as a means to improve recruitment and retention, these courses provide an introduction to civil engineering tools and design. We propose to develop and test materials that can be used in these two classes to provide students with an introduction to transportation engineering design and operations. The problems will be real world based so that students will gain a better idea of what transportation engineers do, the kinds of problems that they face, and the kinds of tools that they use in their jobs.
