Remote Access Laboratory for Testing Advanced Traffic Signal Systems: Operational Manual and Application Guide Grant uri icon

Overview

abstract

  • With the availability and the knowledge gained through the development of NIATT’s Remote-Access Hardware-In-the-Loop Simulation (RAHILS) laboratory, there is a need to develop course activities and application guides that leverage the RAHILS concept. NIATT traffic controller laboratory, with its world class combination of software and hardware and it remote access capabilities, provides educators throughout the nation with a unique opportunity to integrate real-time traffic controller operations in undergraduate and graduate traffic engineering education. It also provides researchers, vendors, consultants, and transportation professionals in state and local agencies with a tool that allows them to test advanced traffic signal control systems in a laboratory environment. In this project we propose to develop an operational manual for the lab’s remote access testing and a set of case studies that are based on field problems with different complexity levels. The case studies will serve as an application guide for the lab users. The development of such materials will improve the lab utilization and the quality of service of the lab to its users.
