The first objective of this research project is to develop guidelines to select the most appropriate signal control system for situations encountered in Idaho cities, design and implement centralized and closed-loop control systems, and operate centralized and closed-loop control systems. The second objective of this research project is to develop training materials that assist ITD personnel in the design, implementation, and operation of these advanced control systems.
Anticipated outcomes are
- Two workshops on guidelines for designing, implementing and managing traffic control systems,
- Project final report with guidelines for designing, implementing and managing traffic control system and guidelines for multi-agency traffic signal system control and operations, and
- GIS database for traffic signal systems inventory in six Idaho districts (excluding Boise area).
