Small Engine Laboratory Support for Ethanol-Water Igniter Performance and Emissions Testing
NIATT's Small Engine Laboratory (SEL) provides key support to graduate engine research as well as undergraduate vehicle competitions. Strengthening the SEL infrastructure with upgrades to our engine dynamometers, cold chamber, exhaust emission analysis equipment, and coolant handling will enable us to improve support. Resurrecting our Cooperative Fuels Research (CFR) variable compression ratio engine, stored off campus during the Gauss-Johnson renovation, expands our engine research capability. Continued progress in our catalytic ignition work demonstrates commitment to our industry and government collaboration towards development of commercial igniters for a variety of engine platforms and fuels. We remain committed to educating the public about clean vehicle technology through publications, conference presentations, and demonstrations.
