abstract
This work will build off an undergraduate Technical Elective course in fall 2005 that focuses on reverse engineering, transmission design, and engine reconfiguration aimed at the Formula SAE competition. This effort will develop a large knowledge base in our senior class on systems design as well as detailed design of transmissions. Two graduate research efforts will leverage outcomes of this class. These include expansion of the Mindworks on-line resource on machine design components and development of cutting edge, compact transmission concepts that increase efficiency and reliability.
