Update Section 300 of the ITD Traffic Manual Grant uri icon

Overview

abstract

  • The Idaho Transportation Department’s Traffic Manual guides traffic operations and design for the Idaho state highway system. While the manual is applicable to the state highway system and to signing on local roads and streets adjacent to this system, local jurisdictions may also use the manual. The manual is also a valuable resource for both research and teaching in transportation engineering, illustrating the design practices of the department. However, parts of the manual, especially section 300 on traffic signals, have become quite out of date. For example, reference is made to software tools that are no longer used. And, new practices, such as the use of the flashing yellow arrow, are not included. In addition, a number of new studies and manuals (for example, the new FHWA Traffic Signal Timing Manual, released in 2008) are now available and should be referenced in the ITD Traffic Manual.
