Traffic and Controller Data Collection System Enhancement, Deployment, and Testing
This proposed work finalizes an upgrade to NIATT’s existing portable video data collection system. The first phase of the upgrade acquired and assimilated the basic data collection system components, such as additional cameras, portable power sources, video servers, and wireless video transmission. This phase of the upgrade is nearly complete. However, tasks of acquiring the means and knowledge to professionally store, transport, and install it at the site still remain. In addition, controller data logging capabilities need to be integrated with the data collection system.
Proposed work in this proposal constitutes the next phase of the data collection system upgrade. One aspect of the work is designing, building and acquiring the means to store, transport, and install the data collection system. The other aspect is modifying the controller data logging device created in a project last year to enhance the data collection system, logging controller input and output data throughout the data collection time. The technical product of this project will be a data collection system that will obtain high quality high resolution data needed to further NIATT research objectives in three areas: arterial traffic flow theory, improved traffic control strategies, and improved performance measurement.
