College of Engineering’s Unique Opportunity to Fill Departmental Chair Positions News Release uri icon

  • The University of Idaho, College of Engineering is currently conducting searches for chairs in all departments of the college.

“This is a unique and rare situation,” said College of Engineering Dean Larry Stauffer. “Though it is a coincidence we have chair openings in all departments, it presents us with two distinct opportunities. One is that the college has the opportunity to create an entirely new leadership team with a new vision. Secondly, prospective hires will enter into an environment where they truly will be able to shape the future of the college. It’s a very exciting time and we are looking forward to the selection process.”

All positions require a strong commitment to, department administration, teaching, research, and outreach. Chairs will be responsible for promoting effective leadership of personnel and management of departmental resources as well as providing effective departmental representation as part of the college’s leadership team.

“The significance of these chair searches cannot be overstated,” said College of Engineering Dean Larry Stauffer. “We are conducting a national advertising campaign for all positions and each of our searches committees are promoting the positions through a network of professional and educational associations. We even have created a special website for the chair searches in which I provide a video introduction to the college and discuss the positions. Foremost, our goal is to find candidates that are a good fit with our college, who will help lead us into the future.”

Candidates can find more information about the positions, the college and university and watch the video mentioned above as well as apply at
