Overview

abstract

  • A workshop is proposed to finalize the development of a partnership in higher education and integrated science, technology and engineering research in sustainable social and economic development in Central Asia between the US Universities Consortium (US UC) and the University of Central Asia (UCA), which has four campuses in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Afghanistan.

The Seed Grant will fund a three-day seminar at UI in September 2013 between delegations from UCA, UI, Utah State University, Oregon State University, and University of California, Santa Barbara. Delegates will finalize a cooperative agreement for signature by all parties. Participants will emerge with a vision and plan for directing the collaborative research and education program.

The UC-UCA agreement will include study exchange of talented undergraduate and graduate students with universities funded by the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). Graduate students and faculty from UC will be able to develop collaborative research projects in Central Asia, exchange their knowledge and experience, study in field and in laboratories, supported by US National Agencies and UCA/AKDN.
