Biology and Management of Insect Pests of Wheat in Northern Idaho
Grant
Overview
abstract
The Hessian fly and the bird cherry-oat aphid are important constraints for wheat production in northern Idaho. This project examines the biology of Hessian fly in order to develop better management practices for this pest. Additionally, the project examines the biology of the bird cherry-oat aphid, a vector of Barley yellow dwarf luteovirus, and how transgenic resistance to a plant virus may alter vector behavior and host-pathogen-vector relationships.
