Engine and Vehicle Demonstrations on Aquanol Fuel
Combusting ethanol-water fuels with a Catalytic Plasma Torch (CPT) promises to reduce pollutant emissions from low-compression as well as high-compression engines in urban areas. This project involves instrumenting and monitoring the performance of two fleet vehicles converted for catalytic operation. We will collaborate closely with the supplier of the catalytic igniter technology, Automotive Resources Incorporated, Sandpoint, Idaho. We will also train drivers and maintenance personnel from the University of Idaho in Moscow, Valley Transit in Lewiston, Idaho, as well as the Idaho Department of Water Resources in Boise, Idaho The goal of this project is to demonstrate the feasibility of retrofitting a spark ignition as well as diesel engines for catalytic operation and to monitor long-term fleet operations.
