A midwesterner, Dr. Haltinner came to UI after completing her PhD in sociology at the University of Minnesota. Prior to that she earned degrees in sociology (MA-American University) and Africana Studies and Psychology (BAs-Luther College). Kristin has worked and traveled in Ghana, Tanzania, South Africa and other places throughout the world.
Kristin's research focuses on racial formation and right-wing social activism. She has done projects on both the TEA Party and militia organizing in the American southwest. In addition to her academic interests, Kristin has worked as an intern for Senator Feingold (D-WI), as an Americorps VISTA, and as an evaluation consultant for ExperienceCorps.
When not in the office, Kristin enjoys playing softball, doing yoga, and spending time with her family and friends.
